Chyrp today and the road ahead

Last year I began work to migrate my blog to Chyrp. I was sad when I logged on and found that the project was shutting down. I archived away my work and began contemplating my options again.

A couple of months ago I dropped by to find that the project was active again -I presume under new leadership as it seems. I thought about coming back, but was reluctant. Recently I saw the 2.1 release finally made it out. I took this as a positive sign and here I am again. :)

I liked Chyrp and thus why I was considering it. I just don't want to put more time into it to have it fold up under me again. Thus I'm wondering it there truly is a core group that's going to stick with it. I don't have a lot of time to work on it, but in the past while fixing my issues I did contribute a number of module updates back to the project. (I see someone is interested in Categories that I updated to work with 2.0 and apparently still works with 2.1.) I've written and maintained my own FOSS blogging platform for many years, but was largely a one man operation. I could no longer maintain because I don't have the time required to "do it all". Thus I EOL'ed it and began building a migration utility to Chyrp. I'd like to resurrect my work and contribute towards the future here if there truly is some commitment to the future.

Thank You,

Hi PolarLava (klp), a warm welcome back.

Thank you for the honest expressed opinion towards Chyrp and your concerns with the future of the platform.

I will try to conclude it with a short response.

I had the privilege of taking Chyrp from Alex who graciously handed over everything to me. I am not a guy who makes promises very often, but when we're talking about Chyrp I can be very mouthful when I say that it is not going to shut down as long as I will be mentally and physically healthy.

As the moment of writing this Chyrp is not my primary thing that I work on, but rest assured that I'm considering all the options of making it be my primary goal. In the other hand, it is generally still a one man project, but we're getting along quite well with the valuable help of many Chyrp users.

Frankly, if it comes to a point that Chyrp can get some funding it could widen from a one-man project to a active team of developers. But that is yet to be seen in the near or far future.

I've put a TODO list in front of me for future versions of Chyrp, but also something to make the whole idea a little more exciting rather than keeping it as a "yet another blogging engine".

Hope that clarifies some of the points to pointed out, and I encourage you to maintain your little corner of Chyrp related extensions.

OK, I was able to resurrect and update my previous installation without issue. All of the modules I was using and/or working on seem to be working at a cursory glance. I'll poke around some more before uploading then as compatible.
